The Fisher Price Rock n’ Play Sleeper is a very popular infant sleeper. However, many users have reported that their new borns who slept and rested in the Rock n’ Play Sleeper suffered flat head syndrome (Occipital Plagiocephaly)
Flat head syndrome is caused by baby’s skulls being very soft and placed against hard surfaces for extended times.
Products sold for infants to sleep and sit in should not be made of such rigid material that it can cause infants to develop flat head syndrome.
In addition to the risk of developing flat heads from sleeping or resting in the Rock n’ Play Sleeper, it was recalled on January 8, 2013 because of its propensity to develop mold fund under the removable cushion.
Despite the demonstrated propensity of the Rock n’ Play Sleeper to develop mold, (600 cases were reported and 16 infants were treated for respiratory issues, coughs and hives after they were in the Fisher Price sleepers1.), Fisher Price’s recall only applies to those Rock n’ Play Sleepers that have visible mold. This of course, begs the following questions: 1) Would you have purchased the Rock n’ Play Sleeper if you knew it had a propensity to develop mold behind your infants head? 2) Why won’t Fisher Price just return your purchase price? 3) Just because my Rock n’ Play Sleeper doesn’t have visible mold, why would I want my baby sleeping in it given its propensity to develop mold, and 4) Given that the Rock n’ Play Sleeper has been recalled for its propensity to develop mold and it can cause your infant to develop flat head syndrome should you stop using it, and get your money back from Fisher Price?
